About Ben
Hi! I'm Ben Ng, and I'm currently on parental leave. Before this, I was an Engineering Manager at Amazon Japan. I'm wary of becoming a manager who forgets what it's like to be the engineer deploying the code and holding the pager. So while my son is napping, I'm shipping the side projects that I've been thinking about for years.
My engineering career has been a series of deep dives into foundational technical problems, such as building machine-learned search ranking at Etsy, scaling EC2 Networking through massive growth, and launching the new Amazon Furusato business in Japan.
As a manager, I led a team that delivered over $1.5B of annual revenue. I love finding potential in people that they haven't fully recognized in themselves yet, and helping them realize it. I believe in doing right by the human and the business, and have a low tolerance for corporate theater.
When I'm away from the computer, I'm either playing golf, rocking out on my electric guitar, or taking street photos with my kid in tow.
